Varivas line

I have never fished with Varivas only Tuff line and a few other US lines. I will be throwing lures in the 70g to 150 g mainly and want PE 8 braid . Not sure which Varivas most guys prefer GT Max or one of the Avanti lines,definitely want a good casting line without the wind knots...Any suggestions...? Thanks...Lee

Lee, the Varivas line which most GT anglers use is an Avani - Varivas Avani GT Max, most often in PE8 or PE10.
You should not think that this will eliminate wind knots though. In fact, as it is such a soft and supple line, you could argue that it is more prone to wind knots than something stiffer like TUF-Line.
Nothing at all wrong with using TUF-Line or indeed Jerry Brown.
My guess (only a guess) would be that those three are the favoured lines of many GT anglers, with Varivas Avani GT Max coming out on top.

Thanks Mark for the input. The Varivas I see for sale is called "Varivas Avanti GT Max Power" I assume this is the line you are referring to. I haven't seen Jerry Brown line is it more like Tuf-Line or more like Varivas? Regards.......Lee

As mentioned in the earlier posts, investing in premium Japanese lines will not stop wind knots or tangles on guides from happening. Also, it may seem as if Japanese lines are stronger than US made lines of similar diameter but in actual fact US line makers underrate their lines by quite a bit.
Established lines like Tuf Line XP and Power Pro will work just as well as the Avani GT if you-
1. Do not overfill your spools (main cause of wind knots)
2. Cast with your mainline to leader knot off the spool (will minimize guide tangles)
Personally Tuf Line XP is a little too waxy so I use stuff like Power Pro and Sufix 832 in 80-100lbs most of the time.
