Montebello Islands Poppers
December 09, 2011, 01:04:54 PM
Gents......

I have a trip to the Montes planned for next year and am starting to putting together my arsenal of lures.

Can any NW WA locals or fishos that frequent this area recommend:

1. Particular lures;
2. What hook they were rigged with; and
3. Provide details on specific techniques that have been successful with these lures?

Much appreciated,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Craftbait GT2's in natural colours (sardine, flying fish, striped tuna etc) are a particular favorite of mine. I usually rig mine with ST76 5/0's. I also like Orion bigfoots in 140g fusilier colour. On my last trip the Japanese boys used Gamma 160H's heaps and did exceptionally well on them.

Hi Chris
Yeah I would agree with Jay on the Craftbaits and Orions. I rig with ST66 5/0's but the equivalent in other brands will do, you could also go with SJ41 11/0 Baker rigs depending on your own personal preference. I have caught fish on the usual Cuberas and Bomboras in the 150 gram range. If you get the latest Fishing Wild magazine, Brad Bell who is on here has written an article on fishing the Montes and gear he takes.
