Fantastic Pete!  I love the thought of GT "popping" with a nice 100 kg rated 5 ft 2 jig rod retrieving a 350 gram custom Master Bomb.  8)

I notice mention of slings/weigh bags - yet again search through the EU carp pike and catfish scene - there are nets and slings etc of ENORMOUS proportions available.

Yep, the British carp slings are massive things and designed to exacting specs as the regulations are tight.  in most British fisheries Carp must also be de-hooked on a special mat to avoid damaging the fish.

There is actually a much, much simpler 30 dollar solution if you really want to weigh your GTs. A set of bathroom scales on the boat - weigh yourself and then yourself holding the fish.

How about a Popper launching Canon!

Something that looks like one of those Japanese whale harpoons that you can load a 200 gram big mouth into and will fire it over the horizon (could get away with just a jig rod for the retreive and fight then too).  360 degree rotation, 90 degree elevation......just load, stand back, aim and fire.........BOOOOM!

I can see one mounted to the bow rail and one on the backrest of the helm seat.

As an added advantage it might be big enough to take a frozen chook, just for when those charter boat bottom bouncers decide to troll their way to a new spot between YOUR boat .....and the headland you are casting at.

....yeah, that would be neat!

I can build you one of those Pete  ;D

Smith used to make a big Runboh but they wanted a minimum order of 300 lures to do another run of them. Fantastic lure but boy, it was a bit fragile. The wood it was made from was really soft.

I've still hanging onto that Chartreuse one Brandon, to scared to cast it  ::) ;D

Hi Peter,
A few different designs have been around for a fair while for surf fishing i.e. http://www.surfrocketfishing.com
I have mad a few designs myself (for surf fishing) although the issue of quick fire repetition to launch would be the main problem that would have to be overcome along with the hooks on poppers etc.
Cheers
Ben

Ahhhh Mark, I think the carp sling is just a little too subtle!  I think Ben is on the money with the surf rocket.

Lets get serious though, compressed air is for pussies, I'm thinking of something that runs on gun powder or at least two stroke fuel!.......and not that E10 rubbish either!........BOOOOM!

We can hook it straight up to the under floor fuel tank - for a direct feed.  If the outboard ever breaks down, we can use it to slingshot the boat back home too!  It would be great casting mooring lines to the dock too........stand back..........Boooom!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Not 3 piece but ripple are coming out with the GTX series of mid joint 2-piece travel rods very soon!!

After two mates both had rod tubes lost by airlines i am going to throw a reasonable travel GT rod out there.

Any chance Ripple or Carpenter could look at say a 3 piece 7ft 6 inch PE 10 rod? or does one exist, in the pipeline? Something that can be handcarried on board easily?

Yet again Fox appear to have come up with something rated between PE 5-8, which i am looking at, but a 5 piece GT rods seems a stretch to me although the specs are good (19lbs drag at 90 degrees and rated to cast 200g). Not a monster fish rod or a staple but something to fish PE 8 with in the event of disaster, now if it was a Ripple or Carpenter it could be a staple.

Hi Andrew ,

Konishi-san trialed a PE8 Carpenter Travel rod in NZ recently and he boated a 40 kg YTK , check this .

I need an tool bag that can be mounted on the boat... Should be able to contain splitring pliers, crimp pliers, unhook pliers, sissors, knife, boga grip, hook sharpener, PR bobbin etc. No more looking trough your bag to find those damn tools :0)

Hi Jon, any more info on the travel rod that Konishi was using? I just bought a 5 piece nitro viper for light tackle - a similarly compact GT rod would be the answer to my prayers! Cheers,
Michael

A cheapo jig wallet works pretty good for that.
