Lure advice please

<< < (2/2)

Peter Childs:
Serge, they're all pretty big lures for some extended popping.  You might wan't to chuck in a couple of slightly smaller or smaller cup sizes for a bit of reprieve when you need a break.........or maybe I'm just getting old.

I f you are on a budget, I'd be thinking a couple of cubera 125s (one of my favs) or even a skipjack 120 or 150 for a real break (I note you have a couple of Long Pens - but they are something different again).  It's not just working the lures (you will get a bit of a break with the stickbaits) but casting 150 - 200 grams all day + terminals will give you a real work out.

I'm assuming you are taking a bit of a range of rods for that selection too?

Cheers

Mark Harris:
I agree with Peter - look at getting some 120/125 gram type sizes. For example, Heru Cubera 125 is a great popper.

If budget is the concern then no point recommending the likes of Craftbaits.

You will find a lot of very proven lures from Adhek for the sort of of money you want to spend.  In particular I would recommend trying to source:

Adhek Venus - fantastic 120 gram popper with huge water presence for such a light lure.
Adhek PomPom 160 - a big chunky deep water popper which makes a lot of noise.
Adhek Penipen 140 and 160 - floating stickbaits best worked with a medium/slow retrieve.
Adhek Ocean Lady 160 - a truly huge pencil popper.

Depending on where you are fishing, I would also add Adhek Goby to that list. It only works effectively in flat water though.

The whole Adhek range is made from super strong wood (Mahogany) with very nice finishing and wiring that can be prone to stretching but does the job well enough.  Mahogany is a very dense wood compared the lightweight stuff that some popper makers use, so they also tend to cast well.

ps, Fisherman Long Pen is not a stickbait!

Serge de Bruijn:
Some solid advice here ... thanks.
Even though we are hitting the gym twice a week now untill our trip I will get some lighter poppers/stickbaits as well.

I had read about the Long Goby from Adhek but will look at the other lures mentioned as well, a friends parents will be in Indonesia in Februari for 4 weeks and are willing to bring the lures back home which will save us shipping and taxes.
Orion's will be ordered next week, they appear solid and Eric has been a pleasure to deal with in the past.

Serge.
