I used to have one of these Ben before having it bitten off by a massive Barracuda in Komodo.

It's definitely large (!) but certainly easier to work than some other 200 gram+ chuggers like the truly painful I-Cup and MasterBomb 205.

Brandon might have some words on this one.

Harder to work than an FCL Ebipop 200?

Crusty made this lure at my request. What we were trying to create was a monster popper that would be comparatively easy to work compared to other monster poppers in the market but would still stick hard in the water like the rest of the Kong family. Obviously, a lure of this size is never going to be easy to work for long periods of time but to me, we achieved what we set out to do. In my view, it is significantly easier to work than other monster poppers out there.

I think for most people though, the standard 200 Kong is already more than enough popper.

If you want to use a popper of this size, you've got to be able to use it effectively otherwise you're wasting your time. I've literally seen guys using G and I Cups before who were creating a smaller chug than I was doing with a 125 Cubera.
If it swims; I want to catch it!

Ben, personally I would say that Ebipop 200 is easier to pop effectively than an I-Cup or MasterBomb 205, and that the King Kong is a bit easier still.

Brandon - out of interest (and this question may well be better directed at Crusty) - I have noticed that Full Scale stockists tend not to offer the King Kong.  Has it ever been generally released to the market or is it a special order? I ask that as the one I had was given to me by a friend and I don't think I have ever seen any others.

I've just requested a quote on their website for a King Kong in Blue Wiggle.

King Kong was never sold thru retail outlets because there was simply not the demand for it, As Brandon has already stated, you can get quite enough chug and presence from smaller lures, King Kong was a very specialised popper designed for pulling fish up from deep water and to carry the biggest hooks you can find, not many people can fish it effectively, anything less than heavy PE12 popper rod will simply fold in half

What Rod is recomended for such a popper?  Would a WV80XH do the job?

I was practicing my poor technique the other day and tied one onto my MH79XH. The rod seemed to get a nice action out of it without a huge effort but anything less would probably be hard work!

I have no first hand experience with the WV80XH but I beleive it to be a bit more powerful than the MH79XH so it shouldn't be a problem.

Shouldn't be a problem.

I've also used it with my Fisherman TRSH and it loved it!

I used the king kong on hots gipang 75xxh and RF79h. Both pop it nicely. It's a big popper but still easier to than other monster popper. Great popper to have. One thing I discover, when it say use big hooks with it, you find the biggest hooks.
I think owners 76 50 is not even big enough.

You can use ST76 5/0s but the size of the lure is such that you don't get enough clearance with this hook so your hook-up rate may suffer. I find the Decoy 10/0s about perfect.
