Well we went out for our first serious crack at some GT's yesterday as the tides looked good. I chose a spot that was renowned for having heavy tide rips and the ground showed a lot of potential. When we got there we chose a spot that consisted of a group of big bommies that came out of 7m with the current ripping past.

In a short session we managed 3 epic bust offs and a good 6 strikes from GT's up to 25-30kg. Unfortunately we didn't manage to land any GT's, a combination of difficult ground and inexperience. When it got towards the top of the tide they shut down.

Not bad considering it's right on our doorstep. Today we're going to have another crack and hopefully land one.

Here's a picture of me hooked up to my biggest for the day with my new Carpenter SP-78H. Addicted to GT's.

Don't worry Jay, sounds like you're close to getting them sussed.  Once you boat a couple it will only get easier.  I can remember how relieved I was to finally catch one after getting busted off so many times.

We had another crack today, the tides were bigger (perhaps too big?) and the current was really cranking hard it was scary. It was alot quieter than yesterday. We only had one hookup from a big GT but it busted Glenn off. It was also overcast for the entire day, not sure if that could have had an influence.
