Mate that is a cracking effort, that would have looked awesome jumping around so close to shore.
Are mahi a regular capture from shore over there?

I think it's a rare event even for the Big Island. I have personally seen them pass through a few times and hooked into one at Makapuu Ohau shore casting. Mind you that was over a year of throwing plugs every day at sunrise before the kids went off to school. I have read stories about huge bait schools and preditors like Ahi in chase visible from shore in days long past. These have been netted down to small infrequent seasonal baitfish schools.
