I believe the rods are from Xzoga??? Looks pretty parabolic for a popping rod....... 

Just tough luck I guess with the two lost fish.

I mainly use only up to PE8 rated rods with 65lb or 80lb braid when in the Maldives. They get the job done 80% to 90% of the time.

I am agree with you gerard, the only place i obliged the costumers to use 170 lb line and 300 shock leader was Socotra all the other place i saw including lakshadweep it could be enought a pe 8
