Hi everyone,
I have just spent a few days in an unseasonably cold Musandam, Oman.
Even though weather and water was cold we had decent fishing. Our first day we had to fish protected waters for longtail tuna, but the last four days we got to fish the distant spots for the big GT. Fishing was said to be slower than usual but we managed a total of around 25 fish, ranging from a couple of little guys around 5 kilos up to 3 or four around 30 kilos. Most of the fish were around 15-20 kilos though. Big Orion poppers (Cono-Cono) and stickbaits (Big Foot 170 gr) was most succesful in the deep waters and strong tidal currents.
The Musandam is a truly beautiful place with high mountains falling rising straight from the sea. Much like a desert version of the Norweigian fjords more familiar to us up here in the north. Fishing in the company of Iranian smugglers crossing the Hormuz-straight definately adds to the experience! Nick Bowles operation and guides are truly top-notch and I can highly recommend fishing with Ocean Active.
