The Counterintuitive Bimini - read on...........
May 15, 2007, 08:11:09 AM
Guys - here is another article on testing lines and knots with braid. The most interesting part of this article is that the writer is subscribing to the theory of a much smaller number of turns for his bimimi doubles.
Having read previous tests which clearly showed that the strength of the knot was proportional to the number of turns, this is a little confusing, to say the least!
I'm not sure if the IGFA machine is a straight smooth pull to breakage or whether it simulates the strike of a fish but the figures shown do not bear any correlation to the previous tests figures I saw which produced contrary results.
If you want to read the whole article -

If you just want to read the segment on the bimimi -

Found the bimimi test very interesting 12 turns being stronger than 20 or 60.I do 50 and have not had one break yet.

I used to do 30 :
turns but have upped it to 50 in the last 12 months ;
, I've had no trouble before and have no trouble now
, so 'if it's not broke .....!!'

i tried not too long ago.
80lb braid pulled to failure.
5O turns, seems ok
.
12 turns, the bimini slipped
.
so, till i do more test, i will stick to 50.
