First popping trip to Lombok

(1/2) > >>

Hwee Guang Phang:
Hey guys,

I just booked my first trip to Lombok with Pak Adhek and would love to get some advice from you guys. I have only done light popping in Malaysia before this. The trip will be in January and from what I have read, I can expect some pretty decent action.

Rod wise, I am looking at a DJ83MH or CV79, unfortunately they don't seem to exist anywhere in Singapore! Alternatively I am considering the Kaiser El Toro 150 paired with a Stella 10000 (PE8  Tuff XP), would that be a good pairing? I am not too keen on the SOM 16000 as I think the Stella ARC spool lip does contribute a fair bit of distance.

Lure wise, I am intending on bringing a combination of El Toro (Heru Cuberas) 125, El Gaviota (Heru Skipjacks) 125, Halco Roosta 117, Adhek Venus 125, Penipen, Long Goby. Any other particular lures that would work well there? Would 3X Owner hooks suffice or should I get the X4 trebles?

Thanks!

-HG

Jay Burgess:
I'm not really too familiar with the Tuf Line but I think you'll find that the standard 10000 spool isn't adequate for PE8 and that a 16000 upgrade is pretty much mandatory.

Nick Wykeham-Martin:
Hi Hwee, speak to Sabre tackle in Singapore, they are the Carpenter dealers, i know he is getting in a few different models before the end of the year.

Hwee Guang Phang:
Jay, yea i was thinking about that. Do you reckon I could just go for a 18k Stella?

Nick: Thanks for heads up! I think they are getting some Coral Vipers, I might go for that! (though I really want a DJ83MH after reading the glowing reviews)

Peter Olesen:
Hi Hwee

Regarding the fishing, I think Mark Harris is one of the experts there. Maybe he would even sell you one of his 1000
 rods  ;D
