Try chainrigging a couple of swivels and / or split rings together to get the desired length!  Maintains flexibility but still get bite resistance.......the leading edge of your popper wont last long, but the hook should still be there!

Zylon is the go YGK do it, not the total answer but it is hard wearing and even hard to cut.

ahkay, so nothing in Oz when it comes to heavy kevlar........bit of a retail opportunity there lol. thx Serge, will check out the US supply.

village story from last friday - guy in a dugout canoe kura fishing [handline with traditional coconut leaf-wrapped dropstone technique] in 250 metres for longtail snapper gets hit on the drop by a solid hoo. hoo takes off in typical fashion, launching the nest of mono between the guys legs which gets looped tight around his arm, pulling him and his gear and dropstones into the blue as the tiny dugout goes over. luckily the guy manages to grab the overturned dugout, gets towed around for quite awhile til the hoo tires, rights and bails out the canoe, recovers paddle and gear, lands the hoo, then paddles to the Lodge, scales it at 29kg cleaned and sells it for a cool SBD$348. shoulda seen his hand that hung on to the line tho - makes you appreciate the drag on a saltiga
