Fox reels

I saw a reel yesterday for something like $1600 in the Compleat Angler. It was called a Fox Stratos or something like that. Has anyone ever come upon this before? I was just staggered by the price more than anything else. It looked a little bit like an Accurate in that it looked like it had been carved from steel.

I just don't know how a reel that has no presence on the market can try to sell for a price like that!

Is that the 2 speed model? - they are very heavy!. I lost interest when told the price.

Has Alan Tani or Clem Henry had a look at these reels ?- my research says no, which says something in its own right.

It gets even more confusing as there is a Fox Stratos reel model for sale in England which costs GBP60 ??

Think I'll stick with the Stella and Saltiga.

I have had a play with a couple and they are definitely a house brick at 40oz (1.12kg), even the popular big two are only around the 830gm mark give or take.

It would be a killer to pop or jig with for more than 10mins.

I am also not fond of the backplay for the two-speed gearbox, quite a bit like a 2 speed game reel, a bit un-nerving, when you are so used to the solid instant anti-reverse systems in other reels.

It may do OK with switch baiting beakies or cubing for fin.

The single speed feels a a bit better, very Accurate SR in feel though, but it is still about 980gms....too heavy unless your rod is a featherweight.

Wow Brandon, you've seen them in Aus!

2 speed isn't a bad idea!! Has Mr Alan Hawk pulled one apart for review yet?
The Yanks might be ok with that kind of weight but I doubt it will find any use for casting or jigging.

I weighed the bigger model two speed one at a tackle shops proper bait scale.....it weighed at 1.385 kg's  .

It's heavy and you'll probably need to eat nutri grain cereal iron man food before using...............

It feels rough in it's operation even at the 6:1 & 2:1 speeds.

Brandon - Maybe if the ball knob with handle was gold plated it could be worth $1600.......buy again we talking about the Compleat robbery franchise......oopps I meant Compleat angler  .

Whoever decided on the pricing should go for a reality or brain check! For the price and how heavy it weighs, who the hell will buy something like that??? Its either we are stupid or they are! I tend to believe its the latter tho.....

I paid less than $1,650 for my FCL Labo 81 Extreme/Stella 10k with JM 12k spool upgrade loaded with JB Solid (ok mostly on sale but new).

I though Fox were more known for Carp gear.

Was very keen on one from the states for 1300$ introduction price last year but was not keen on the line capacity on the two speed,  still I would like one just for the fact its a two speed spin reel
