help for a beginner
April 20, 2008, 08:17:18 PM
Hi to all,

I'm looking for a light/medium, popping/stick baiting rod to fish around the Palm Island Group off Townsville in Far North Queensland.

Target fish will be Coral trout, Queenfish and GT's from 5kg 20kg.And belive me their are alot of bigger fish around.

Area's that will be fishing will be Chillcott, Albino and Hayman Rocks, Queenfish Ally and as well as any points that recive massive tidal current during the bigger tides. And Coral reef flats.

My gear at the moments is as follows
Reel - Daiwa Saltiga Blast 4500
Line - YGK Nitlon (yellow) 40lb 300m
Leader - YGK Castman 50lb twisted into 100lb 2-3m
Terminal end - Owner 150lb crane swivel with a 150lb owner split ring
Lures - R2S 150mm Dumbell's, Daiwa Saltiga Darado 140F's - any popper or stick bait in that 15cm range. and weight between 50-120gm.

As I work in a tackle shop, the rod that Im keen on is a Daiwa Saltiga 80TN (PE4-6). Is their any comments out their about this rod for what I want?

Cheers

the 80TN is a lovely rod. If you're planning to be fishing around 40lb, it should be ideal.
If it swims; I want to catch it!
