Very interested in this rod as well. Maybe ok for small poppers around 100-120g?

I am taking an EP86/40 to Sth Oman next month, hopefully I can give some feedback on the rod.

Aaron,

It's quite a substantial rod. You may get away with 120g ones but the 100g would be too light to load the rod.

Sorry Mark I must have missed your post.

EP series are versatile rod and will handle poppers up to medium size but it's hard to say with weight as it is probably more to do with shape and cup size.

My personal experience with popper on this model is with Sea Frog Twin Hook only so I'll wait for feedback from someone like Andy.

Cheers,
Tak

Tak, how does the 86/40 handle a 120gm twin hook?

Off topic, but many thanks for your recent package, well received, look forward to giving the BLC some work as well.

No worries Andy. Good luck for your trip.

With SF120 Twin Hook, lure will work better with softer popping action and 86/40 will be fine. Although I would probably prefer 145 size twin hook (we had prototype) for the rod and 120 with a bit softer rod myself.

Cheers,
Tak

Thanks Trevor, sounds like this might be the rod for me if I can find one.

Andy, did you ever get to try the EP86/40 in Oman?

Hi Jussi, I certainly did, maybe a 1,000 casts rigged with SF twin hook 120 and stick baits up to 170gm no problems. Casts and works them fine. I was unlucky time-wise this year in Oman as the GT did not arrive until November, So I did not catch a fish on it unfortunately.
