southern vs. northern Oman?
Arturo Zambarrano Jr.:
I have family in Oman, but they don't fish at alll. So I wanted to ask where is it better to fish, southern or northern part in Oman? I wish to target big GT's.
Thanks in advance!!
Aloha!

Trevor Skinner:
Arturo,
Oman is a big place with a vast coastline. When we talk about GT fishing in Oman we're talking about 2 areas.
1. Northern Oman: this is actually geographically within the UAE and is the southern point which forms the straights of Hormuz. The area is mainly referred to as Musandam
2. Southern Oman: The Halaniyat islands (old name Kuria Muria) which are a group of islands off the southern most provence of Dhofar of which Salalah is the main city.
Regards,
Trevor

Hi Arturo,
Great place to have family live and to be able to visit them. As Trev said Oman is a big and diverse country. The two places we fish are Musandam in the North and Hallaniyat Islands in the South. Generally Musandam is a much easier location to fish and can do it on shorter trips. Hallaniyat Island in Southern Oman you need a bit more time and is a lot more rural.
Fishing wise we generally catch more GTs in Musandam but the bigger GTs are generally in Hallaniyat. Hope this helps. If you need any additional info or have queries drop me a PM.
Cheers,
Nick
Trevor Skinner:
Nick,
At the moment it looks like this may be Musandam's year to break Halaniyat's stranglehold on big fish. It's looking very, very good.

I'll second that there have been some crackers coming out the Musandam this last year I think it's a matter of time before we reach the mythical 137cm mark in the Musandam again.
