EIAO, Marquesan Islands Oct 2013

(1/3) > >>

Sam Colvin:
Hi Guys.

Just returned from deep into the pacific.

EIAO Island is situation roughly 1500km NE of Papeete, Tahiti. After roughly 24 hours travel we made the islands.

EIAO is a very isolated island in the Marquesan group. With the presence of ciguatera, no commercial value for the GTs and logistics the locals say well away. A perfect recipe for us anglers!

GT - Topwater was quiet by EIAO standards due to green water in close. We still managed some nice fish off the top but a the larger ones stayed deep and attacked the jigs. Largest was 124cm and mid 30s.
Dogtooth - They were in abundance on both topwater and the jigs. Fished ranging from rats to just shy of 50kg. Unfortunately some very large fish made their escape after their blistering first run!
Pelagics - A couple of nice YFT off the top and a couple of smaller models jigged. No Wahoo on this trip unfortunately.
Reef Species - Millions of pesky Bass, Bluefin Trevally & Yellowtail (coronation trout).

Overall it was a great trip with atleast something attacking your lure on most occasions. A great organisation and is one that I would fish again in a heartbeat.

Anglers: Benji Bury, Erin Cummins, Tom Miller, Myself, Dan Konig & Ryan Watson
Reels: Stellas, Saltigas, Torsa, Talica, OJ, Catalina
Rods: Temple Reef Reefer's, Carpenter CV79/40 & MH80H, Temple Reef X12 Jig, Temple Reef R9 Jig, Ripple Fisher 78PF & Yamaga Blue Reef 78/8
Line: JB Solid, Varivas GT Avani, Sunline Monster Battle, Sunline HG Jigger

Here's a few pics for you to enjoy.

Thanks
Sam

Mark Harris:
Sounds like you had a ball Sam and very well done.

This destination is definitely on my bucket list.

We should all be promoting the spread of ciguatera!

Charles Cintron:
Awesome action Sam, nice doggies

Hawaii is plagued with ciguatera too  :)

David Noble:
Looks like a great trip Sam,

Plenty of action & variety of good fish plus some unstoppables to boot.
Conditions look good too,

Cheers Dave

Sam Colvin:
