Topwater Caranx Ignobilis: Giant Trevally (GT) > Reports & Expeditions
Cairns 1st June 08
Stephen Polzin:
Well I finally managed to get out to the reef on Sunday for the fist time since February. Cairns is a great place, but the relentless wind at this time of the year can really be a downer. Might be time for a bigger boat!
Anyway, with the wind down and dropping further, myself and Fraser made it out and started casting. I tied on a Fisherman Long Pen recently purchased from Kasey (thanks mate) and first cast resulted in a double hookup with 15kg fish.
This set the tone for the day, with the final tally resting at 14 GT's, including 4 double hookups! There were probably just as many missed hookups and pulled hooks.
We didn't land any monsters, with the biggest going 16KG on the scales, but there were plenty about.
By the end of the day the ocean glassed out beautifully for a great trip home.
Unfortuntately my still-camera got left at home, but I did have my video camera so I've made up a little clip of the day.
Check it out!

Nice fish. Glad the Long Pens produced.
