Custom Rod Thread Art
November 25, 2013, 11:56:55 AM
Aloha from Big Island!
Here are some pics of a bit of the threadwork that goes onto some of my custom rods for the customers who want a little bling bling on their new toys. A mix of both plugging rods and Hawaiian style slide bait rods.

Would love to see what other guys around the globe are building too, post some pics!

That's beautiful thread work! Love the fish pattern. Did a few of those many years ago, though maybe not as successfully as you!

I tip my hat to thee sir!

Some beautiful examples and as I have just started with basic chevrons and can appreciate the hours and hours and skill that goes into them - could I enquire where you got the Ulua transfers?

Nice work fella!

Guys - could you recommend a good tutorial or book to start getting this done? been looking at the visual weave software but curious to see how it would help!!!

Alex
Try and dig up a copy of Dale Clemments custom rod thread art. I am pretty sure it is out of print but you may be able to find a second hand copy.
Cheers
Bob

As Rob said above, the Clemens book is the baseline for all thread work and everyone has started off his patterns. The most current and popular is the book by Billy Vivona from New York; his stuff is insane. You really dont need books to learn, just have an understanding of what it means by +1 and -1 when it comes to thread counts, and you can develop anything you want!

Nice pattern under the stripper guide Peter; classic style!!!

Nathan you inspired me! I just had a crack at a spider wrap, first one ever and only the second ever closed wrap. It would have helped if I had the right tools and a book but I'm happy with the result. Still a little packing and epoxy to do.
