Hi All,
Cyclone Christine on it's way to the Pilbara brought about near perfect conditions on Saturday.
Usually the few days before a cyclone hits we have glass off conditions and a plan was hatched for an early morning start out of Dampier.
Saturdays trip was with local GT guru Brad Bell to the outer edges of the islands. Brad has been focusing on his fly fishing of late and was keen to get amongst some the GT action he'd been missing out on.
On the way we stopped to flick for some barra and scored well with fish from 70 to 90cm, but that's another story.
Temperature was pushing 43deg by 10:00 and we had scored smaller fish around some island drop-off's but not what we came for.
We decided to push onto a reef that had been working for me the last few weeks and pulled up for bite to eat when the water erupted in front of the boat.
Quality GT's everywhere busting up fusiliers, was a sight to behold and many expletives followed as food went everywhere in the rush to get lures in the fray.
Double hook-up was instantaneous on a 20kg and 25kg fish.
What followed was an awesome session with 11 fish hooked and 6 landed and a PB of 32kg for myself that gave me hell in a few feet of water.
There was some brutes in amongst them and Brad lost a ripper on a WCP Delambre 120, too much pressure on a fish not realising how big it was, straightened his hooks.
Lure of the day was the Aswb SS90 stickbait, really fired them up.
Some pictures of the day below.
Cheers
Jason.
