Montebello Islands
March 07, 2014, 09:52:03 PM
I finally popped my Montebello Island cherry. After an 18hr drive and 2.5hr boat ride we arrived at the Montes in my 6.1m boat and our mates in there 5.6m (lot of effort for 4 days fishing). The weather couldn't have been any better with glass off conditions everyday. The first two days were a bit slow with the slack tides but as the tides grew the fish really turned on. Plenty of G's were caught along with by-catch of coral trout, queenies, Spanish macks, tuna, spangos and other forms of trevally.
A lot of the gt's were found in very shallow breaking water witch meant that some of the bigger fish blew as away in spectacular fashion! I have no idea how it is possible to stop these fish, bent trebles and blown leaders were our weak points. Best lures we used were the aswb stick baits, west coast poppers and doctor hook stickbaits.
Cant wait to return!

Awesome stuff Brian, yet to get there myself even though I only live up the road from the Monte's.
Good to see you scored on the locally made lures.

Cheers.
