Jerry Brown Solid (non-hollow) 80lbs vs 100lbs
(1/1)
Desmond Lee:
Hi,
Does anyone know whether the Jerry Brown solid 80lbs is thinner or thicker than the solid 100lbs?
I was searching around, only saw people mentioning the Hollow Core 80lbs is thicker than Hollow Core 100lbs.
Please advise. Thanks
Yu Jen:
Solid JB 80 is indeed thinner than 100. At least according to a us site that makes and sells windon leaders. For hollow, the reverse is true as 80 uses more strands.
Ian Cook:
I have both, and the 80lb JB solid looks a feels thicker than the 100lb JB solid to me.
Cheers,
Ian
Felix Lux:
The 80lb is thicker and stronger than the 100lb. Although the 80lb is a 16 strand hollow (as opposed to the usual 12 strands) I have no idea why they called the stronger and thicker line 80lb...
Here a website that measures breaking strain and diameter of various lines: http://www.paulusjustfishing.com/4linetesting.htm Was a little suspicious first but found his test results to be correct (at least diameters) through spooling and using a few lines listed there and comparing how much I could get on my reels.
