Andy Rowe:
Sorry for diverting the thread guys.

Interested in your experiences with SOM spools Sami as you put a lot more hours on the gear than most.

I own 1 x 18000 and several 16000, they have performed flawlessly to date, but I do home service the drag stacks after a couple of trips. I do agree the 18000 is really a bling piece as there is no extra capacity advantage over the very reliable stock shimano and yumeya spools. I like to use the 8000-10000 reel a lot so the 16000 has a capacity advantage only for me. No issues with the drag or casting / lip to date but I shall certainly update on any issues.

Mark Harris:
x 2 what Andy says really.

Two of the three biggest GTs I have ever caught came in on SOM 16000 spools without issue.  I do make a point of home servicing the drag stack after each decent fish. On the oldest SOM 16000 I have, one Carbontex washer has been replaced.

I do agree that the 18000 SOM adds nothing.  I do use the SOM 20000 on a Stella 18000 for some extra capacity when using PE10.

Will be interesting to get hands on one of the new SOMs. These have been available in Japan for a few months now so I would imagine the usual western outlets will have them soon.
