Fish fever
August 30, 2014, 09:33:16 PM
When do you start packing for an expedition?

When does the fish fever for the trip start to kick in?

Its another 9 days before departing to South Africa from Saudi Arabia and then two days to pack and get ready for Vanuatu...

Definitely several weeks in advance, it's good to start hoarding, collating and itemising what you will take. This is even more important if you are expeditioning in a remote area.

Particularly with being efficient and avoiding excess charges by airlines - it's good practice to do draft packs and get a general weight of what you currently have. The it's a process of chopping and changing what you have and identifying what you have forgot!

Thanks for the input.

Guess mine will realy start next week Wednesday morning when I land back in Johannesburg.

I have been hoarding since January this year the last few reels needs to be spooled, terminal gear to be selected and paid for.

Then the test pack will start in earnest as next week Friday evening its lift off from Johannesburg again.

At least I can spend a few hours casting early morning in the Saudi heat today to get things going...
Even in the 43C heat... :o

Money. Just pack it all and leave it to chance. Insh'allah you will get through unmolested.

Well it really depends on how much you have of each? And what do you want to set your sights on more!

Move reel bodies only (no spools) and more clothes to carry on, reduce any unnecessary packaging.

Clothing amd spinning reels with out spools are going into the carry on bag.

The vertical jigging and fly fishing reels will be checked in.

I have pulled some jigs a popper and a stickbait.

The 4kg's extra will cost me $340Aus from Jhb to Sydney via Dubai.

I have will pack again the morning and then make the call if I will bite the bullet and pay for the few extra Kg's

I am sure there will be no issues coming back with extra weight after 8 days fishing... ;D
