Light or Micro Jigging

Can anybody provide more information in what classes as light / micro jigging?

What gear are used and what fish species are targeted?

Hi Gerhard,

Micro jigging classes can vary from other peoples view. From my own application you would class it using jigs as small as say 10 - 40/50/60 grams.

Reels are normally a 2500-3000 size spinning reel, using PE line of either 0.8 to 1.2. Leaders can be as light as 10 - 20 lb with fluorocarbon being a length of between 2 - 5 mtrs. Water depth of around 8 - 30 mtrs using rods of a length of around 6 ft to 6'4ft long.

Fish species of your reef fish are a target like red rock cods, snapper etc. Kingfish jump on a micro jigs at times too.

From my understanding micro jigging is popular around Singapore.

Will go and investigate next week when I get there.

in singapore we micro jig with 7g-20g jigs

anything above 20g we consider light jigging

we typically use 2-6lb or 4-8lb rods with 1000 sized reels runing 6lb braid or PE 0.8

I am amzed at the size jigs when I walked into shops like Kaiser and JDM.

Pitty the rainy season is here...

After playing in the GT pond yesterday afternoon I think the fishing for the year is done.
