Craig Maree:
Nathan when building your overheads rods what space do you allow between the rear of the rod and the reel seat?
Have a 9.6ft rod what spacing would you recommend for this?
Cheers
Craig
Felix Lux:
Nathan will be a better indicator for heavy GT rods and definitely the guy to ask.
Generally though it's very much personal preference, will vary a lot with your casting style/technique and is also a matter of how long your arms are.
For example if your focus is more on casting and fishing lighter lines I'd personally have the middle of the reel seat (where the reel foot is) 60cm from the very bottom (bottom end of butt cap). I'm 186cm and have about normal length arms. As said this reel seat position is more focused on casting, not on fighting the fish! And it's for a high mount casting technique, which i guess most guys using overheads for spinning would use.
If your arms are about the length of mine and you're fishing 60 or even 100lb hollow with according drag settings of over 10kg, I'd definitely have the reel seat a bit lower. You'll loose a bit of casting distance or would have to put more effort in for the same distance, but a really high reel seat would be a killer with a 9'6 pe8 popping rod...unless you're a big strong guy.
Stuart Rowley:
How or where can you buy these rods, please??
