trip report - Taveuni Island Fiji

Pat Victorino:

   Hi Steve,

Nice Doggie in the photo.Great trip reguardless of the bad luck with the weather. On the subject of engine failure,it also happened to us last month with captain John.We were about one wave away from getting reefed and not to close to home either. The starter was giving us major problems and on the last day they decided to swap it with the neighbor's but the engine wasn't running good.I think it was going on 3 cylinders at best.Randy's group also had a similar incident in may.

Stephen Polzin:
Nice pics mate, did well to salvage a rough sounding trip.  I agree, spaniards are great fish.

Steve Carruthers:
Thanks guys, no Dave we had the spaniard barbequed. That kokoda sounds good though.
Hey Pat, you got plenty of favourable mentions over there. John told us about the other two close calls. Pretty hairy hey. I think we got a kink in the fuel hose. Hopefully all is sorted now.
Yeah Brandon the last minute doggies really made the trip. The more remote reefs are only fished every now and then by the sound of things and there's plenty of unfished reefs that will be in range with the new four stroke motor. I think these factors and previous trip reports show that there is definitely great potential in the place.
Hey Stephen, I bet you're spoilt for spaniards up there bro. Was a big kick to get that one on a lure I made myself.
Bye, Steve.

Pat Victorino:

   Hi Steve,

I was worried for my girlfriend and Mark much more than myself. It definately would have put us in a pretty bad situation to say the least if we ended up on the reef. They need to look into a bigger boat with twins for the future and adding a kicker for the meantime.
Taveuni has great potential for monster GT'S and trophy doggies. There's a bunch of unexplored areas i believe will be very productive if the weather allows a trip.Problem is that a bigger boat is needed to reach the farther reefs.

Peter Lowe:
Mate, even though not all was perfect, it was an awesome adventure - thanks for sharing. Some great fish and a fantastic first - RESPECT.
