Remote Fishing preparations & tips
October 26, 2014, 06:17:35 PM
Good day

Fishing in remote areas where you use small pagnas, camp on the beach and forced to limit what you carry is a totally different story from going on a center console and going back to a hotel or a boat house
Going to virgin spots and the probability of catching that dinaussaur GT keeps building
but some simple things can really irrirtate you or cause unjustified fish or tackle loss

I've seen many GT fans here has been to such places many  times,
try to add a few trip/life saving things or tips

For me, it would be a rod holder where you can keep your rods safe when not in use, I even use PVC tubes that I have no problem leaving after he trip

Bring spare spools of line because if a big GT or dogtooth grabs your lure then decides he wants to take 100m of braid of your reel then busts you of your reel is looking pretty empty bring 2 spools of 350m or 1 700m spool. Also bring plenty of spare rods and although they are expensive spare reels and a spare spool (to hold spare line so you don't have to wast to respooling reels)
Use high quality storage bags such as those by HPA
I hope you have fun on your expedition and catch plenty of big fish.

Spare camera (having your camera destroyed half way through fighting a massive doggie or GT is not fun) :'(

How many rods and reels would you typically bring on an adventure like this? Say 10 days. 3 GT, 2 jigging and 1 light tackle?

It all sounds super exciting. I need to plan for one too. :)

I would bring two light tackle rods, because they are relatively cheaper than heavy tackle stuff.
2  18000 spinning reels and a spare spool (25000) these reels will act as jigging/ popping reels.
2 Jigging rods if traveling to remote locations bring PE 8 as a minimum if jigging for dogtooth.
LOTS of jigs and poppers with LOTS of spare leader.

I guess I would add strong PVC duffel bags versus roll-on bags like Rimowas? :)
