Carpenter TBL 80/40 thoughts

(1/1)

Alex Gomez:
Evening chaps,

Has anyone used this rod and is it versatile enough to throw poppers and stick baits please?

Cheers

Alex

Peter Olesen:
Hi Alex
I have used it on one trip and love it FWIW.

Gamma 140 and 200 is good/do-able - Gamma 160 is perfect!

Have tried the Sebile Splasher 190 (weighs app. 145 gr without hooks) - no sound from the popper at all... I have popped Skipjack 150 with it - no problem. Very easy casting (for me at least - I think it loads very nicely for casting).

I think it was Andy Rowe who said:"this is the rod I always wanted my CV79/40 would be". It is quite similar to the coral viper though TBL casts heavier weights and CV pops fairly larger poppers - e.g. Sebile Splasher 190.

Regards,
Peter

Alex Gomez:
Thanks Peter,

Really appreciate your experience with the rod.  I recon I can snag mint one for around $600 so may be worth a punt.

Thanks again!

Alex

Shannon Poulton:
Get it as your stickbait rod. They saturate too much for poppers (I have an 80/43), but are great for what they're designed for

Glenn Waddle:
Sorry to bring up this post.
I have one TBL 8040 coming in and cannot wait to play with it.
Would there be any equivalent in an RF? Say the new 710 UG swim nano?
many thanks
