First timer, headed to Bali. Need Captain
March 10, 2015, 01:33:43 PM
I've done some research on here at the consensus seems to be that Adhek is the dude for popping in Bali.  Well, unfortunately, he is booked for the entirety of my trip in early May.  Does anyone have another captain they can confidently recommend for GT popping?  My friend and I are both first timers for GT fishing.  I am headed down from Japan and he is coming from the states.  We will bring all the gear we need (hopefully) based on what I have read here.

Also, any do's and don'ts for our stay in Bali are highly appreciated! haha

Thanks guys,
Trey

Hi Trey,

You can do a search of the forum for many past topics about Bail.

Alternatively, make direct contact with Jon Li on this forum - i'm sure he has some contacts up his sleeve.

Go to serangan (benoa), find serangan watersport boat or kaisar boat. Their office is side by side.

Thanks guys, I will search some more on here.

I'd like to have a boat lined up before I go, if not, I will go down to Serangan and see what is available.

Question for you guys, how fishable is Bali when the wind is blowing 10-15 knots?  Its not too late for me to change direction and pull the plug on this one/reschedule.

Might be hard or dangerous depending on the boat you hire?

Yeah safety is a concern.  I noticed it is storming down there everyday for the next 10 days.   Anyone know if this type of weather pattern typically signals the end of the season?  I'd likely reschedule for the fall/winter if this is the case.

Being based in Japan (if i recall correctly) and with your Shimano connection - I'd be cancelling and trying all your luck to get a spot on the Big Dipper at Tokara (via Amami).

Haha, I think I'm gonna go to the other side of the world and catch some tunas instead!

Cape Cod should hopefully be warming up soon on the topwater front!

Give Paul a message at Saltywater. I think Sami is in the Andamans at the moment.

Cape Cod for the summer, gets my vote

Trey, sorry I did not see this post.

As per our conversation earlier today - your weather reports are erroneous. Not a breath of wind here at the moment and the outlook is for 5 knot breezes and 1 metre swells. Also you had some bum steers on charters and I hope that is now sorted out.   Just follow the lead of your colleagues at Shimano in Japan (and Mr Fukui and Mr Mogi) and fish with Adhek.

You know how to find me now so please do feel free to get in touch anytime.

Thanks again Mark.  I decided to call an audible and will head back to the states for a mixed bag of fishing.  Bass, inshore and offshore.  I will be rebooking Bali for sometime in the fall/winter and will make sure to get with Adhek well in advance.  Perhaps you could join me on the trip.

You could contact either Jon Li or Mark Harris on this forum for information on alternatives to Adhek. But my guess is there is little quality choice.

I had talked to several people and everyone had said Adhek or Kaisar were by far the best outfits.  Both were booked during the time of my trip so I booked another boat.  Later I found out that they kill all their fish and aren't really a good outfit for popping so I pulled the plug.  I'm a big believer in the "if you are going to do it, do it right" mantra so it didn't feel right.  I'll head back to Texas, fish locally and visit friends and then hop a plane to Venice, Lousiana and spend a day doing tunas and then another day deep dropping for swordfish/grouper
