Hi all,
I have a budget so please be kind. I use a T curve GT special and like it. My wife has been using an old Finn nor jigging rod with a stradic 8000. We mainly fish where she gets queenfish up to about 110cm on home made turned timber lures.Anyway it's her birthday coming up and I was hoping someone could suggest a nice light type of popping rod that would suit this style of fishing. She likes her rods pretty flicky. (if that's a word)
She reckons she wants a G Loomis rod but I don't know enough about them to know if they even make popping rods.

Thanks in advance,
Cameron.

Cameron,

I'm sure Loomis have a suitable rod in that category but I like the Shimano T Curves pretty much across the whole line-up for light line sportsfishing, they're readily available and good value. Get one to match the Stradic although Stradics are a little slow in the bigger sizes for my taste and would prefer a reel that picks up line a little quicker when chasing queenies.

The combination doesn't need to be top shelf nor heavy to fish for queenies. They don't fight dirty and although they can take off at quite a pace and pull hard (especially the big ones) they usually bugger themselves especially if they jump, and most do. In fact, if you've ever considered taking up fly fishing and you have a ready source of willing queenfish they are the perfect candidate to learn on.

Just a thought.

Regards,

The new Shimano Ocea rods are good for the money.  They are pretty too!

Thanks for the replies. I think shimano makes a stickbait variation of the similar rod that I have, would that be OK?

There is the Revolution Offshore range and the Bluewater range; each has 2 stickbait rods in it.

Hey Cam, does she like to throw poppers or stickbaits better? And if it's poppers, are they with bigger cups like River 2 Sea Dumbells, or more medium/small cups, like a roosta, cotton cordell? And what weight lures does she roughly cast?
Suppose about 40-50lb braid on the stradic?
Cheers,
Felix
