GT In Mexico!!
January 11, 2015, 12:26:20 AM
This has always been a topic that we discussed but to say that I am surprised will be a lie to myself!
Angler: Boyang Zhang fished with Captain Lora out of Punta Mita in Mexico landed the biggest surprise  :)
this catch is going to make every GT angler think twice about the migratory pattern and where and how those fish travel, must be a warm eddy around that this GT tagged along and found a new home in Mexico, God knows where they're going to pop up next :)

That's awesome!  What's the current thinking why they aren't typically found along the Pacific coast of Latin America?

Hi Alex,
They pop for yellowfin tuna using poppers up to 200g, you can also catch all sort of fish on that size popper in Mexico.

Hi Alex,
Get in touch with Charles Cintron, he is your man with all the info you need to fish in Hawaii, he can definitely recommend you to somebody that can take you out or give you the right advice.

On a side note, one trevally species caught in Mexico is the black jack.  Definitely a member of the Caranx family (Caranx lugubris?)

I have not caught a GT yet, but on a few long range trips down to Mexico to the Revillagigedo Islands years ago, I did catch a few black jacks or chopas.  These would be a incidental catch when we were fishing for big tuna on live bait and 60-100lb stand up gear.  Even on the big gear, these fish pulled hard for their size!
