Hi All

Does anybody down Sydney town way fish around Kingscliff, I just came across this pic on SeaBreeze, my bible for weather activity, It says that the location was Kingscliff, which may not the the catch location but if it is then - WOW.

2 hours 10 min on 15 lb - RESPECT - need to teach him the joys of CNR though.

it wouldn't be Kingscliff on the Tweed Coast, would it? Do GT's get caught around there?

You're right about the joys of C & R.......blood streaming down the fishes side isn't the best look, is it? Especially with a species of fish known to be poor eating at large sizes. It's interesting, I reckon, how we become conditioned to certain practices over a relatively short period of time. 20 years ago, this sort of activity would have been admired and possibly even encouraged, now it's more frowned upon.

Its says in the little profile window Kingscliff Sydney - which is what amazed / excited me. Land based popping for the southern crew  - now I am sure that would be welcomed amount the NSW GT warriors.

Yes the C&R thing - some agree some dont, personally, I now release pretty much everything - even though I have pics of myself at the age of 12 with a foam surfboard covered in dead 1-2 kg Bream my brother and I would catch in Brisbane waters each weekend. Makes me very sad to look at those pics now, at the time we were cool....... oh how things do change......

Looking at the image, it's Cudgen Creek at Kingscliff in N/NSW.
That fella looks like he's standing on the south wall, where a good cast will see a jig or popper hit the inside edge of Kingscliff Reef.
Been there enough years ago to know the spot.
And YES, big G's (bigger than this) live around there..AKA Fido's, 9 Mile...et al..

Ditto for the 'times have changed'...a magazine (unless its a kill/grill one) would NEVER publish a bloodied up fish like that.
We all know they can do it if hooked in the gills, though PETA and other extreme groups live for this stuff as a campaign against our sport being cruel and inhumane. This bloke is livin in the late 70's!!!

Ditto - definitely Cudgen Creek - lived in Kingscliff for a while - caught plenty of small ones around there but never any that big!

It's rather amazing how easliy it can be to figure out where a fish has been landed if 'landmarks' are in the photo!!!!

I don't think the main populus realizes this, do they!

As for the G population, I've seen enough mini G's in the creek, with the biggest being around 9kg...wonder how many XOS fish are in that area between the Nine Mile & Windarra Banks eh?? Perhaps we need to look!

i took the boat up last year to tweed and managed to get a 13 and 16kg GT on 8KG plastic's gear,and got done over a few times so i imagine there would be a few brutes like the one in the photo hanging around

There is an awful amount of un-popped territory out there, away from the caaaarazy trollers who do 20Kn for wahoo & 'fin....there is plenty of places that get hit with awesome current that the G's would love. Just haven't fished with bigger poppers or stick baits around there...yet.

Some of these little honey holes may have a stack of big G's that haven't beem pricked yet...and only an hour from home.

Had a Jig and Pop at Hutchies on Friday week [12th] for little result, actually one Mac Tuna is no result, but a boat near us picked up the 30kg GT [on bait] that was waiting for my popper, not a bad GT for the location being winter and only 20 deg.
