tackle advice for nomad jewel reef trip
July 31, 2015, 07:33:46 PM
Hey guys, I broke up with my girlfriend and booked a 7 day trip to jewel reel.

Nomad recommend a 100lb, 60lb and 3-40lb setup on their website.

I have the following:

1. ep88/35 with stella 18k and 80b powerpro
2. tbl80/30 with stella 10k and som 16 spool with pe6 saltiga
3. shimano grapper s80m with stella 5k - currently has power pro 20lb on there

Do you think that is good for jewel reef or should I really be putting 100b on my 18k, and pe3-4 on my 5k?

Nomad also supply gear, should i use their gear or is it worth bringing my own?

Also, does nomad still have a singles only policy? no trebles at all no matter what size lure?

Thanks guys

Gavin - for Jewell, I'd be thinking PE8-10 for the GT outfit and a PE5 for the lighter casting outfit. I am not sure I would bother with the 30lb. The reefies there are big and inhabit reefy areas so any lighter than PE5 and you will lose a lot of tackle.

80lb for your heavy outfit is too light - start at 100lb.

Nomad can provide gear but you need to be realistic. You're going to be using gear which has been through a lot of hands and the line may be very well used. Your own gear is alway preferable.

The single policy remains in place but this is for heavy tackle only. Still, better to ask them as it will be a huge problem if you need to replace all your trebles with singles as this will cost you a bomb.

A bit of advice - make sure you are absolutely clear on weight limits for the flights to and from Lizard. This can be a real headache if you don't plan properly.
If it swims; I want to catch it!
