Came across these South African lures anyone use them in oz either from a boat or the shore.
Looking to get some as I'm coming over to fish Exmouth from both a boat and the shore.next year.

Hi Doug,

GT ice creams are well regarded in the top water world. They seem to have lost a little of their popularity of late but I find them an awesome lure that produce some of the best takes of any top water lure. The reason being that you just simply fast burn them across the surface so the hit is even more brutal due to the high speed/high tension of the retrieve. Be sure to hold on tight when there's fish about when cranking one in.

Tuna love the 2oz and under models and your bigger pelagics love the bigger models. Just throw a big assist off the back.

Also, they're just about unbreakable.

Nomad use to have them in the online store. I have a few but haven't used them in anger yet.

They have to be the simplest lure out there but apparently they work pretty well and as Mark said, they produce some of the most insane takes due to the speed of the lure. I have been meaning to make a few myself.
There's always a bigger fish!

Thanks Lads i'll get some for that Exmouth Trip in July. I have some poppers but like the idea of throwing these from the beach as they reckon you can chuck the 4oz one a hundred yards.

Have a look at a website called www.afritackle.co.za

Look at either Doug Swannell Custom Lures or Seal Point plugs.

I live in the republic and these are some of the most used land based lures. Many also used on the boat for yellowfin tuna and yellowtail kingfish.

100m would be considered average for casting distance depending on the gear you are using.

I have fished WA and did very well on long tail tuna, Spanish macks and queen fish off of the cliffs.

If GT is your target look for the wider ones that push a bit more water. They tend to hit short of the lure on the narrower plugs that you wind very quickly. The wider ones will also call fish from deeper water. They are also good for any of the reef dwelling species like coral trout.

Good luck
Let us know how it goes.

Kind regards
Anton

Elite Tackle and Nomad has them, and there are most likely others if you hunt around.

Cheers,

Ian
