Topwater Caranx Ignobilis: Giant Trevally (GT) > Tackle & Techniques
What rod?
Luke Wyrsta:
Shimano GT Special would fit the bill.
PE5 - PE8 (fish PE10 no problem), 100g-250g lure rating, 12kg drag...
That's as good as you are going to get for the specs you want...
Jack Lai:
I find it convinient to throw 100g and pe5.
I mostly use 12kg with 140g poppers but was wondering if there was a 'light' rod to take 15kg if required.
As I was thinking of using it for marlin popping as well. Since capacity is an issue hence the pe6.
Sachin Chaudhry:
Jack, have a look at Hots. Don't know if they have rod that can deliver 15kg max drag but they should have one at 12kg and PE6. Alternatively go heavier on the rod rating and use a bigger spool if you are using a 10k Stella a 20k spool will fit and a Dogfight or Expedition spool will fit the Z6000gt.
Jon Li:
Jack ,
The marlin popping rod from Carpenter is BC611XHS-GM SHP ;
http://www.carpenter.ne.jp/co%20seihinsyoukai%20rod%20bc611xhsgmshp.htm
It has not got the capability of 12 kg drag setting though .
Jon .
Jack Lai:
Since its in deep water I think pe6 will be enough with 400m of line?
Jon the rod is intererting. I can't read the characters. How many kg is the guy lifting and what are the specs of the rods?
