Brad,

Yep...jigged for AJ's, pearlies, snapper, kingies off Fraser.
Been smoked by doggies and seen a spool job on what appeared to be a big yellow fin tuna.

Jigging is best in winter with less current...go out along 80-130m, find a school of fish on the sounder and drop some big arse jigs down....you MAY get them back! Most jigs are 300-400gm and longer jigs find the big AJ's...

Aaron.

less current is not a good thing in NZ you need lots of current to get the fish feeding, i think it would be the same in Aus, but maybe not, have jigged the southern end of fraser got some tuna and pearlies and well a mixed bag of reef species evry drop.

Thanks Guys :

I have never fished at these depths before, I guess you can have a couple of different currents while fishing at these depths, like a surface current then another current running another direction down deeper ???

During summer, the East Australian Current roars along the 'shelf off Fraser, which means it's harder to get jigs down in over 80m at that time.

The fish are still there. Its just harder to jig with anything less than 500gm, whereas in winter, there is STILL current, just less, to the point where a 300-400gm jig will get down and can be fished.

Hi Aaron,
I was thinking of having a look along the shelf east of North Reef up past Heron. Will I hit that current up this way? Have you ever fished that far north on the shelf?
All my jigging to date has been 40 to 50m deep.

Graham,
I haven't fished that far up the 'shelf at Heron at all, I'm sorry.
My suspicion is that the current will hit the shelf no problems, though to a much lesser degree to the cayon wall off Fraser....it really does,at the very tip of Break Sea, drop from 200-400m V E R T I C A L Y!!!

There are lumps n  bumps out beyond the Capricorn Group in 80-120 that look interesting....so many places to jig, so little time  ???

Aaron.
