Hi,

I'm Dan from Copenhagen, Denmark. My work often takes me to Eastern Africa and India, so most of my GT fishing has taken place along the Tanzanian coast with occasional trips to the Andamans. I've had the great pleasure to fish with Fukui-san/Big Dipper in Tokara, Japan last month (same trip as Luke W). I hope to return to Tokara Islands in a not too distant future.

Tight lines!

Dan

Hi Luke,

It was also a great pleasure to meet you! Made a fast run to Tanzania shortly after my return from Tokara. Unfortunately, we did hit a dead period in the Pemba Channel for that specific weekend (between two jobs) - a few strikes but no fish......

Best,
Dan

Hi All.
I am Sachin. Live in Fiji and have fished around these waters for some 12 years now. Love popping and jigging as well as all things pertaining to tech talk on fishing tackle and sportfishing boats. Cheers

Hello.

Thought I'd say hi, it's great to see a forum dedicated to popping and I'm very impressed with the information available.

I've been fishing since I could walk, I grew up in Oman. Blessed with able to reach 200m+ water in about 5km form the shore. We would catch big yellow fin tuna, dorado, wahoo etc. My best fishing memory was when i was 13 I took my friends boat out, it was a little 4 man speed boat with a 90hp engine. Me and 2 mates skipped school this day because there were reports of huge pods of dolphins 6km out. So we headed out at 7am and were right in the middle of a feeding frenzy. Hooking nice Tuna of about 10-15kg. While I was bringing in the other rod because a friend was hooked up, this huge cow just came out of no where and look my lure right by the boat. Bam it was a fight I'll never forget, it took nearly 2 1/2 hours and we must have drifted out about another 5km. So far we could just make out the land! It weight in at 57kg.

I have since followed this passion for fishing, even quiting my job as a graphic designer to run a little fishing out fit on Havelock Island. These days my office is not the edge of the reef, and my computer is my rod and reel. Hearing the sound of feeding GT's and other monsters of the deep will always get my adrenaline pumping!

 Hi guys,

Great to see a forum dedicated to the fine art of jigging and popping. Looks like a mine of great information.

I mainly fish off Byron Bay, Australia, but I always pack a rod when I'm traveling. I've caught a few small GT's off the rocks here when the water is warm but most of the action is with jigging Kings and Sambo's and the odd Cobia offshore; Snapper in winter, and there's a good run of pelagics in summer. I also moonlight as a Jew Fisherman off the stones in winter.

Look forward to chatting with you all about tackle and tactics.

Hi,

Been hooked on popping only since late 2010, so pretty new to it. Caught my first GT which was about 10kg off Tweed Heads,
over the first 2 days, I landed 8 GT's between 6 and 20kg, which i think was pure luck...haha  ;D
Pretty much only fished off Tweed Heads and in Fiji for GT's so far, but will be organising some more trips in the near future.
Most of my fishing was normally done off Minnie Waters, mainly bottom bouncing before i moved up to Brisbane.

A good mate of mine got me in to trolling a couple of summers ago and now has got me into popping.
I'm getting that hooked on it that now i am starting to make my own poppers and stickbaits, already had some good results on them. 8kg Spanish off Tweed Heads and a few GT's, Red Bass, coral trout and bluefin Trevally on a recent trip to Fiji.
A few guys have bought some off me as far north as Cardwell and as far south as Melbourne and a few places in between.

Cheers Brad

Hi all,

My name is Adam Hogan and Im a keen fisho catching anything I can. I live virtually on the edge of tinaroo near Cairns. I have only recently become fascinated with Gt popping in the past 2 years. I am still on a very steep learning curve and I was referred to this site by a mate. I was very priviledged to meet Barry Cross through my old man. I have never learned so much over a couple beers!

Im now making my own poppers and stick baits in the back yard for that extra thrill! I look forward to ploughing my way through this wealth of info.

Tight lines,
Adam

Hi Guys, My Name is Shaun Ossitt aka 'shauno' for obvious reasons, I have done a bit of everything fishing wise, started land based baito till I was about 10 then got into lures and now fish very little bait (unless its live!). Started spinning minnows for Bream and Schoolies, evolved to creek and lake Trout, do enjoy beach spinning chrome slices for Australian Salmon, although I don't do it much these days.

I'm currently aged 28, on my 4th boat. Fished the Bream tournament stuff semi seriously in 2006-2009 with mixed results... Lately however I find myself enjoying chasing bigger creatures like XOS snapper, Mullies (yet to crack a truely big one) and Kings.

I probably enjoy Barra fishing the most, my best mate lives up there with my second boat (although about to upgrade in a  big way) so I try to get up there at least twice a year. Got 2 meter Barra last season- no guide help, all self reserched.

Slowing kitting my self out to be able to throw stick baits and poppers at our Kings over here....

I actually have acught a GT before. It was an 8kg Model off Mandora Jetty in Darwin Habour when I was 15 (it broke the ratchet on my first ever overhead reel!) taken on a live squid (no idea about poppers back in 1997!)

I hope to Get accross to Exmouth next year, I have regular Barra run off and a long range SA jigging trip planned also, so fingers crossed...

I've already learnt heaps from this great resource so thanks for having me on board, hopefully when I earn my stripes I can give something back...

Hi,

I am Ben from Maryborough, Queensland, though I am working in Kuantan Malaysia at the moment. I am relatively new to fishing (2 years), but thanks to some mad keen friends, I have fallen head first into the wonderful of fishing. Most of my fishing to date has been based around Dampier in WA, boat fishing for trout, rankins, and red emperors, with a little bit of shore/creek fishing. A lack of my own boat means most of my fishing at home is at Hervey Bay for whiting and flathead.

Recently I have really got into rodbuilding, and will be building my first popping rod, and hopefully giving it hell at Exmouth next year. I have gotten a lot of good information off this site, and look forward to receiving more, and hopefully adding a little of my own in the future.

Cheers,
Ben

G'day everyone

im in townsville so if anyone has any local tips or any info to get me started it would be much appreciated
