Drag on Catalina 4500H
December 03, 2008, 02:55:10 PM
I have a catalina 4500H and have used it on some medium Blue Fin tuna to 25kg or so. I have put a set of carbontex washers in the reel a few months ago. What kind of additional drag will I get over and above the standard 10kg?

Thanks all

If I am not mistaken this Catalina 4500H is the rebadged Saltiga Blast 4500 with high speed gear ratio , in 2005 I broke my Saltiga Z4500 and another was broken by my nephew while YFT fishing , both reels were repaired by Daiwa Japan under warranty but now those reels sport Carbontex drag washers due to the original drag washers tend to " spike " and the root causes of the broken reel across the stem .

I wud not use those Z4500 beyond 10 kg initial drag set nowaday and mainly use it for school YFTs n mahi-mahi , the task to handle higher drag set targetting bigger YFTs n GTs is reliquished to Stella 8000FA since 2005 without any problem .

Hi Brandon ,.

How many big Saltiga handles have you seen broken ? We should have " Broken Record " thread to show that GT fishing is very macho , don't you think ?

well, they don't really break most of the time - the handle just goes a bit funny   :D Of course, you get occasions when the whole knob comes off but that hasn't happened to me yet
