It is a bit hard to miss the big Fish Head on the home page (thanks Luke;
)so we thought we should probably give you a bit more informaton about Fish Head, the team here, what we do and why we have taken on a sponsorship role with GT popping.com
We have had the pleasure of meeting many of you, whether it be in person, via email or over the phone but for those of you who don't know us we are based in Victoria Point, beside the beautiful Moreton Bay just east of Brisbane, (the capital city of Queensland, Australia - for those of you who are based OS)
Fish Head is a specialist fishing tackle company with our passion being lure and fly fishing. Everyone involved with Fish Head does a variety of fishing but a big love (and of course adrenalin rush) is jigging and popping. Fish Head carries an extensive range of Shimano and Daiwa products but also many boutique brands that aren't available everywhere. Brands that are specialists in the field of jigging and popping, such as Zenaq, Smith, Patriot-Designs, Seven-Seas, Jai, FCLLABO, Full Scale, Hammerhead, Varivas, Shout, Bouz and many more.
We have a website
www.fishhead.com.au but carry far more than what has made it on there so far. Many items sell out before they even arrive in the country. If you are ever chasing something and you can't see it there please give us a call or email.
Just a quick bit on the team:
Duncan O'Connell: Duncan is the owner of Fish Head and is a man with a problem. Tackle junky and Fish-aholic spring to mind but his continual search for new and innovative products keeps Fish Head continually buzzing with new and exciting things. Duncan fishes as often as he can (he tells us it is work) and his report on a recent Cooktown/Ribbons trip is posted in the reports section.
Gordon Low: (aka the big man, man mountain and of recent times -Shrek and pretzel maker).Gordon is a mad keen fly fisho (as are all the boys), but he has been taken to the dark side and now jigs and pops every chance he can get. His recent trip to Christmas Island produced some awesome GT's in what could only be described as extreme cage popping. Only word of advice if you are speaking to him is if you ask him if something is easy to cast or if you are wanting to know if the item is heavy - make sure you follow it by "for normal people" (Gordon owns a Patriot-Design Fire Vortex rod so for those of you who know that rod you know that he is no weakling)
Aaron Concord:(henceforth known as Donkey;
)Where do I start - or should I stay stop.... Aaron has issues. For those of you have spoken to him you will know that if you get him started on jigging and popping (or Marlin - or anything fishing related for that matter) you won't stop him.If you want to know anything about anything to do with chasing big fish and specifically big GT's then Aaron is a wealth of knowledge. Aaron has been chasing big GT's for a very very long time and for any of you who have ever seen "Five Days at Fraser" Aaron is the man making all the noise (and the DVD).
that leaves Me: Janelle O'Connell:as the name suggests I am married to Duncan. Together we started Fish Head and although in the beginning I tried to control his addiction I have now given up and figure if you can't stop them why not join them. I grew up fishing in the Gulf of Carpentaria in Australia, stopped for a while and now can't get out there enough. If you like Bling then you are not alone. Also if you want to know what cool new stuff is coming then I can usually help on that front. I tend to look after all the advanced orders for rare and unusual stuff and most of our international clients. I also organise the trips, be they destination trips (like the recent Ribbon Reef trip) or our regular jigging trips out of Brisbane.
As to GTPopping.com - many of you are already our clients, all of you share the same passion as we do. Forums like these are a wealth of knowledge, encouragement and a great way of promoting the sport. Sponsoring GTPopping.com and contributing to what Luke and others are creating here is one of the ways we can contribute, it also provides us with a way of keeping you up to date with new products available.
Thank you again to all those of you who have supported us and we look forward to being involved for many years to come.
Regards,
Janelle
