Title: Custom Handpainted GT Popper
Post by: Sebas Kingshoven on October 13, 2017, 03:34:35 AM
Hi guys,
I've been doing some custom paint jobs on poppers for a good friend of mine. He designs his own poppers (among other lures) under a private collection brand. Unfortunately they're not available to the public (yet), but since I receive unpainted poppers in return for the paint jobs I do, I get to keep a couple.  Here's one of the lures I've hand painted. Let me know what you think!

That's a beast of a popper with some serious wiring - S Oman special....

Yeah they are solid. The bloop they produce is heavy!

Nice paint work. That is a very heavy popper. I often wonder with the number of giant poppers like this on the market as to what rods people are using. There are actually only a very limited number of rods on the market that can work a popper like that.

Thanks Brandon.
My guess is that it wouldn't be a PE 6 haha

It would probably be with also one who has biceps like Arnold  ;) to work that kind of popper !.

That is a good looking popper but I can't say I'd be keen on casting it!

I remember finding this popper in a Tackelworld a couple of years ago. There was a few of them and absolutely massive at 300g! Not sure if it was legit or just a joke lure but it was rigged up with proper through wire and a belly swivel.

That is one of those nonsensical Luares poppers. Guy at a Tackleworld recommended it for big GTs. I asked him what rod he recommended for it. He said Smith Komodo Dragon. I asked him if he had used one himself and suggested he recommend another rod. He couldn't  ::)

Good grief that's a big popper. I do know there has been a significant increase in popper weight but 300 gram is overdoing it and then some. Those Chu Bars go around 245 ish, probably the heaviest properly made popper around. Next thing you know, this trend turns into a "60 minutes" episode in which steroid abuse in the GT fishing industry comes to light with increasing muscle demand to work big poppers....
