two of my favourite stickbaits so pretty hard asking me to pick between them. Realistically though, I nearly always have both in my bag. The Heru is a better lure for rough conditions but the Runboh is, IMHO, a super lure in calmer conditions. If you get a couple of big Gamas onto the Runboh, it will sink slowly and boy, its really something then.

You can use a Heru is nearly any type of conditions and it will catch fish.
If it swims; I want to catch it!

Until I go north I would be using these to chase kingies around here and south coast so am wondering how they would fare around the deep water ledges and with some choppy water....guess I will only know by trying them out.....

not really ideal stickbait country but I would try the Heru. I think you will find that the Runboh is going to bounce all over the surface in an area like that

Both are awesome stickbaits.

Besides from what Brandon has mentioned, the one thing i love about the Heru/Nomad is how resilient it is. It can take knocks, blows and maulings with the best of them and still be sweet. Just casting the Runboh will cause it's finish to start peeling and flaking off as hooks smash and grind against it.

I'm not really prepared to say that the Runboh has weaknesses - i hold it in as high esteem as the Nomad/Heru.

To actually answer your question - i would choose the Heru/Nomad over the Smith due to the fact that it comes in such a massive size, is well-balanced, handles well in all conditions, is in good supply and is relatively cheap.

my favourite stickbait is still the Bigfoot - because nothing that looks so bad should be able to work so good and also, it is the toughest stickbait out there! I think overall though, it is still a good idea to carry a range. On some days, one will work and others won't and other day, vice versa. Off Fraser earlier this year - on the first day, the fish would only take the Heru. On the second day, they would only strike a pink Bigfoot. Not any bigfoot, only pink - go figure.
