Post by: Jason D'Angelo on March 12, 2013, 08:29:16 PM
Just wanting to get some feedback
on proven jigs that work very well
on Reef dwellers such as Coral trout etc.
Heading to Singapore next week for 4 days
and will be visiting the tackle stores and wondering
What brands and models i should look out for to purchase
Thanks for your help
will be jigging in WA in a month in depths off 10-50metres
using 30lb tackle
Thanks

I think coral trout are really not very fussy when it comes to jigs.

When they are switched on they'll take just about anything. Is it the Montes you are going to? I normally jig pretty cheap jigs when jigging up north in WA (as you'll lose heaps to reefings and even more to sharks and snip offs). I really like patriot design jigs (especially blast edge and cyber edge) as well as a lot of the long profile FCL jigs or most of the Lambles, but (in my view at least) it is a bit crazy to use this sort of stuff up there unless the bite slows down when you can easily lose 20+ jigs a day.

If you want something cheap to throw at them I think the various smith knife jigs seem to work, but in truth so do the humble williamsons when they are on the chew.

That's not very helpful I know!

Jason,
Try inchiku type jigs. They are very good for reef dwellers.

Another vote for inchikus. Very effective for smaller snappers, groupers, trout, emperors etc.
