Longtails are a painful species to target on cast lures at the best of times as they very rarely hold in 1 spot for very long, and are extremely boat shy. Even when there are masses of bait, they dont hang around and ball it up, they make 1 quick messy attack and move along.
Blind casting is very inefficient. Best bet is to find masses of garfish and wait for the tuna to blow up on them.

Hey mate,

Only managed a few hours on Sunday morning.
Slimeys on the surface everywhere just at the heads by Shoal Bay.

Had a great time catching Bonnies, got one about 5kg that smashed a Zorro 160 but no Longtail.

Also had several live slimeys hit by what I think were kings but no hook ups :0(

It's the first time I have fished up there other than on Marlin charters, It's a magical place and I am keen to go back next year focusing on the fishing other than the family this time!

I think tomorrow should be a cracker as the weather is improving.

May the Force be with you.....

AG

Hey Alex.

Glad you got out and got some rod bendage.

Was a cracker morning in the bay today. Bonnie's and Mack tuna but no long tail. Marked a few marlin but unfortunately the bonito and macks were much quicker to accept my offerings. Macks went pretty hard for their size though. The longtail eludes me but it will happen....

Cheers.

Give me a yell next time your up this way Alex.

There's always something to chase around Port Stephens it keeps the addiction sorted between longer trips.

The bass fishing is pretty good out this way too.

Cheers.

Took my little brother out for a crack at the longtails over the weekend and managed to get a few.

Looking forward to getting a few more while they're around.

Cheers.

Cheers mate.

Haven't been after them since that trip too busy with some freshwater missions.

Here they are still about though.
