Title: GT artwork....."Hit of the Year"
Post by: Angus Hulme on April 28, 2009, 12:13:53 PM
Hi All,

thought you might be interested in my latest piece of artwork. The piece is titled "Hit of the Year", and the finished painting measures approximately 80cm x 50cm. I used a combination of water colour paints applied with traditional brushes, and some airbrushed acrylics. The colours in real life are somewhat more vivid and sharp than what you see below.....for some reason the digital camera I used has made it appear a bit washed out.  :-\

Anyway, I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on this painting, because the subject matter should be very close to your hearts!

In the near future, I'd like to produce a small number of prints of this painting, so if you have any queries, or think you are interested, then please do send me a PM or email. Of course, the original painting itself may also be available for purchase at some stage too. ;)

Thanks,
Angus

Edit: image has now been updated and depicts more accurately the colour and sharpness of the painting. A handful of prints are still available.

G'day Lads, thanks all for your kind comments. As you could imagine, a fair bit of time went into this, both the composition (which I felt required a somewhat more realistic setting than some of the fishing art I've seen) and the actual process of putting down the colour, which was a precision exercise in itself!  ;)

I figure that if I can't get the opportunities I'd like to fish for these beasts, then I might as well paint them, hey?!

For those who have enquired about costs, I will PM you. Anyone else interested should feel free to get in touch with me, because a print would certainly be a lot more affordable than you would imagine.

Thanks again
Angus

There's a bloke up here in Rockhampton that does fibreglass reproductions of fish.  We unfortunately had aq GT the other day that was bleeding quite a bit after landing it, we released it but it floated to the surface shortly after.  We picked it up, put it in the eskie and tried to figure out a use for it.  I rang the bloke about the reproduction and got a quote - $1000 tentatively - it was a 18kg fish.  A bit too much money for me but understandable when you think about how much work must go into it.

well, seeing as the direction of this thread appears to have been moved onto fish with a spikey head, I have done the below painting as well, which those of you with an eye for boats would notice is not quite finished yet! ;)

Cheers
Angus

Thanks Pete, I decided to go with a stickbait as the lure of choice in the painting, purely because my last lost GT was a monster that nailed one of my home made sticks.  ;D But a popper would have worked too.

Cheers
Angus

PS. By the way, anyone else interested in a signed numbered print of "Hit of the Year" should let me know as soon as possible, cos print quantity will be limited to 50. Of course, prints will be on top quality acid-free archival paper to prevent fading etc.

Colin

Chris's studio is here in Cape Town, in the little fishing village of Kalk Bay... I'm hoping to try and go by there soon to have a look at his work first hand.... I would LOVE one of his GT sculptures....

Glad you enjoyed, the pictures really don't do these justice!

Really nice work there Angus and the rest of you.
My main beef has been with snapper and I have a trio of them on my wall.
Now I need room for a print and a mould of a GT!
Anyone got a bigger wall they can sell me?

Cheers stan
