Title: Jigs For Dogtooth In Fiji.
Post by: Clay Hilbert on March 27, 2011, 04:58:13 PM
G'daqy guys, Im heading over to the coral coast for a few days popping and jigging. I originally planned on just popping but I have recently been made aware that they get some good dogtooth tuna there. I've been told that Doggies dont generally like the longer profile jigs like knife jigs and zest jigs. Eas just wondering if anyone could give me a good suggestion as to what jigs to use for these doggies. I've been told that sevenseas Hooker's are a good start, does anyone have any views on these jigs? Cheers.

seven seas work well, but my favourite are the fisherman andamans, ive caught so many species on those jigs, defintely check them out.

Thanks Luke, where would you recommend to pick a few of the fisherman jigs up?

Clay, it's a fallacy that doggies won't take big jigs. Smaller doggies love high speed jigs but the bigs ones can be partial to big sliders like the Smith Nagamasa 400

For Fiji doggies here are some cheap and cheerful options -
Black Magic 200g in Qantas colours..
Zest in pilchard colour
River2Sea Sea Rock 150 or 200g.

Cheers Dave

I had success on some good doggies in Fiji last year on the Shimano Butterfly jigs. The Fijian record of 95kg was taken on one I believe.

You could add Smith Mejiyume to your list too...

Williamson Benthos. Pink and Perl white have worked okay for me.
