Title: Light Jigging 20-30m of water
Post by: Bryan Todd on December 14, 2007, 02:35:39 PM
We had some Japanese guys come out from Maria (Yamashita) with their light jig rods and jigs 60-110g. What are your thoughs on in-close jigging? We did well considering the conditions catching everything from Kingies to Flathead.

We still use the heavy jigs in shallow water say 300g and 400g and have had some good kings up to 26kg,big jig big fish.

We were using mainly 110g jigs, mid weight balanced or rear weighted. The Japanese guys also had these double hook set up which they use for sea bass, it was a really effective system.

Over in Perth here its been catching on. I myself have been catching alot of different species, including squid.... so in other words....if it swims why cant we jig for them. Just vary your technique, gear and jigs to suit. This may not necessary means lighter. I still use PE6 in 30m of water.

As honsu say's it's catching on over here, if we're still targeting sambos & kings we will use up to 280g but we are using more and more the 'Brain/taikabura" type jigs to good effect on demersamals. King George whting, pinkies and dhuies are all taking them. 80g in the burns jigs and we found some bigger ones up to 350g for deeper or stronger currneted water. The main thing found is for the demersamals is to work the jigs no matter what type exactly like a softy for bream( without the line retrieve). My manager Paul has been kicking butt with this technique.
We are finding Pe 2-3 gear is starting to be used for this type of work as we are only fishing in 28-35m of water. But always keeping the 6-8 close by  :D . you know JUST in case.
