Title: Recommendations for night jigging Baraccudas
Post by: Mahmoud Salem on January 27, 2013, 08:26:38 PM
Hi all
In multi-day trips, we usually spend the nights bottom fishing using bait, Baraccudas attacking whatever we catch is very popular, I tried jigging for them but only the tiny ones were interested and not consistently
If I can catch some of these it will be huge fun for me
I did try many jig profiles(mostly luminous), I would appreciate any suggestions

Thanks
Mahmoud

Mahmoud,

Where I fish (Oman) we spend a lot of time and effort trying to avoid them!!

During the day any jig with a bit of flash, particulalrly if it's holographic and flutters on the drop, is in danger. The problem is at night I'm not sure whether you'd get the same effect, depends on the amount of light about but don't really know because they've never been a target fish (for me at least). Maybe try one of those cyalume sticks attached to the jig itself...and well away from your line!

In general, I find that my ability to attract big barracuda is directly proportional to the cost of the jig.

Regards,

Trevor

I spend a lot of my fishing time trying to avoid Barracudas, not attract them!

If you really want to catch them, I would suggest they will take almost anything.  At night, I would suggest full lumo jigs charged up with a flashlight before dropping.

I think we've all taken some amusement from this thread!  ;D
Mahmoud, as Trevor said, we all try our best to avoid barracuda, not catch them.

Definitely use wire leader if i were you, especially when using expensive jig...

Fried barracuda is pretty good for dinner BTW. ;D
