Gday all, I'm looking at getting a light-medium jig set-up for east coast Aus, Sydney to Sth Coast, for kings. Any advice or feedback on either 150 or 250 Deepshots? I'll be pairing up with a SW8000PG and running 50lb. Water depth ~70-120m.
Thanks, Carlos

Hi Carlos.
I would suggest a Synit Deepshot 250 if you want to run 50lb braid and are looking to mainly swing jigs between 200g - 330g.
However I would suggest a DeepShot 150 with PE3 or PE4 for targeting Kingy's upto 20kg as the light setup is lots of fun and has more than enough power to stop the fish ;). You could swing jigs between 100g - 250g nicely with this rod.

Hi Carlos,
I agree with Anesh, main reason being is that the 8000SW will feel too big on the 150 mate.
I use a SW6000PG on my 100 and 150gm rods. The 8000SW is perfectly matched to and will be a well balanced set on a 250gm rod. The DS250 I have I use the SW10000PG (same physical size as the 8000) on it and its just a honey of a setup and has accounted for a large number of kings up to 30kg with ease.
Cheers,
Josh

Hmm at risk of jacking the thread ...
Was thinking about another rod myself. I have a fairly cheap Golden Mean Earthshaker PE4 with a shimmy talica TAC8 on it. It is presently spooled with DSBB PE4/55lb (ABS=68lb!), total overkill for the rod.
I was thinking of bumping that rod down to a smaller reel, say more PE3 use and buying a DS 150 or 250. The thing is, I seldom fish jigs over 200g and never over 250g in that line class which kind of kills the DS250. Whats the max drag on the DS150?

DS150 is 8kg max, best between 3-6kg
and 12kg for the ds250, best between 4-9kg.

Hi Carl,
For that water depth I would tend to favour the 250 Deepshot, but like Anesh says if you want some fun with lighter gear then the 150 would be sweet.
Just got back from Kiribati where Kurt slayed the GT's and reefies on his new 250 OH. Best fish was well over 30kg and he had a grin from ear to ear every time he loaded the rod up.
Cheers

Thanks all for your advice - as usual it is very helpful to bounce off the experience on this forum
Duncan - I'll be in touch soon to sort the rod out

Hi Jamie,
The DS150 is a very capable little rod mate, I have fished 9kg of drag over it on loads of kings up to mid 20's. Funny thing is that the first outing for the 150 was up to the 3 kings and was sporting my brand spanking SW6000PG.....long story short the rod outlived the reel which blew to pieces on the 4th fish from out of the box haha
