Post by: Jaime Chee on October 16, 2011, 12:30:14 AM
Hey Guys

Does anyone no much about the yumeya long handles. Does anybody have them and do they make that much of a difference ? Also wandering if they  fit a 18000 ?

Does anyone know anything about these yet? Am also thinking of getting one with a carbon fibre knob.

Would the longer handle be beneficial with popping or jigging or both?

Thanks Ben

I've tried both the 10k and 18k versions if they make a difference in increasing efficiency it is a difficult thing to notice.

I have a 10K yumeya long handle, its only 5mm longer than the standard handle - a lot of money for not much benefit really.

I understand that the 18K version is 10mm longer than standard - that may help justify the price.  You might want to compare to the new Jigging Master handle as well - I understand they are quite a bit longer!

I had to send my Yumeya handle back for replacement after the first outing, when the spindle which holds the handle knob came loose in the handle and was rotating with the knob - might have been an isolated incicent, but for all the heart ache, no where near worth all the effort for the extra 5mm.

You could get a JM handle for $100 or whatever it is and take the handle off your 18000/20000 and put it on the 8000/10000, then you have modified both reels with longer handles for very little money

Gary, I dont think the threads from the 18000/20000 handle match up with the 10000 size reel - otherwise its a great idea!

Yeah Peter, they do. I have 10k & 20k SW. The 20k handle fits straight on the 10. There is a slight difference in the size of the spindle shroud between the two sizes, but you can attach the 18/20k arm part straight to the 8/10k spindle & shroud. It all mates up perfect then.

My concern about these long handles fitted to a 10000 size body is the extra leverage stress it puts onto the reel.

Most of us already fish 10000 size reels beyond what they were really designed for by fitting a large aftermarket spool and whacking on PE8 line.  A long handle as well might just be a step too far.

My thoughts about that are that the 10000 has the same exact roller clutch as the 18/20K, similar size A/R backup pawl, and perhaps with the smaller size main gear will actually have less leverage/shearing force acting on some of the parts but this is only a guess :)

As Guy said, the handles are interchangeable, but I like to change out the spindle so that they are an exact match at the threads to the main gear shaft.  some people don't bother changing the spindle/shroud of the handle but I think this is a good idea and is very easy to do.

Thanks Guy, I stand corrected!........Now, why on earth did I shell out the extra for that damn Yumeya handle.......?
